Piano Technician
|
David Pinson has had a 25-year abiding interest in pianos. While he was in graduate school in the early 1980s, he took two years of piano lessons from his church organist and has owned at least one piano ever since. David went on to earn two doctorates in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Experimental Pathology (PhD) and is currently a professor at the KU School of Medicine. His interest in piano technology deepened approximately 5 years ago. He joined the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) in 2005 as an associate member after completing the Randy Potter School of Piano Technology. He then prepared for and completed the examinations of the PTG in 2008. These exams include a written exam, a hands-on tuning exam, and a hands-on technical exam (repairs and regulation). In order to prepare for these difficult exams, he began tuning pianos at Kansas City School of Music. David is now classified as a registered member of the Guild (registered piano technician or RPT). He has attended basic and advanced courses in repairs, regulation, and voicing. David tunes and repairs pianos in Johnson County and the surrounding areas. |
